Wouldn’t it be great if there were other options during recess than the sports out on the fields. That’s just what they were thinking at Clarendon School last year when librarian, Jennifer Flaherty was teaching chess to students. The students were excited and wanted to play outside, but that consisted of bringing chessboards and materials, remembering to bring everything back inside, and figuring out exactly they were going to play. Well, partnership with Phoenix Union High School District and neighboring Metro Tech High School solved that problem as their carpentry students were able to build these beautiful chess tables and chairs permanently affixed right outside the Clarendon gym. Thanks, Metro Tech!
